The Third Annual Public Theology Talk co-hosted by the Downtown Church Coalition will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Auditorium at Centenary United Methodist Church. The featured speaker is Dr. Lauren F. Winner, Assistant Professor of Christianity Spirituality at Duke Divinity School. The theme, "The God We Can All Believe In," is designed to bring our diverse congregations and traditions together under one God.
Dr. Winner writes and lectures widely on Christian practice, the history of Christianity in America, and Jewish-Christian relations. Her books include Girl Meets God, Mudhouse Sabbath, a study of household religious practice in 18th-century Virginia, A Cheerful and Comfortable Faith, Still: Notes on a Mid-Faith Crisis, and, most recently, a book on overlooked biblical tropes for God, Wearing God. She is completing a book called Characteristic Damage, which examines the effects of sin and damage on Christian practice.
Centenary UMC is located at 646 W. 5th St. in downtown Winston-Salem. To access Memorial Auditorium, enter through the 4 1/2 St. Entrance. Parking is available on 4 1/2 and 5th Streets.
